About GUI

Till yesterday I was able to run my computer in a high graphics mode with compiz installed...but after i logged into the root and when I revert back to user it's not showing the high graphics...when i try to change it I get a reply as Unable to start settings manager...also the panel where from where we can log out its showing "user" and not my name..How to solve this problem???Thank you for your concern...

Log out, can you then log in as your name rather than "user"?

no...it's still showing the name as user..where it should show my name...
also something called bonobo server is not letting my computer to enable high graphics mode...please help...

FYI You should NEVER log on as root. Its unnecessary and unsecure.

I suggest you boot to recovery root console, make a new user using:

adduser newname admins

You can now reboot using:

shutdown -r now

and log on as the new user to diagnose the system.
