When creating a partition, there will be a place that will allow you to provide a mount point. For your personal data, use a mount point of /home. Use a Unix/Linux filesystem type for your /home drive. This should either be ext3 or ext4 (if you'd like to access your files from a Mac OS X system, use ext2, though ext3 will work but would invalidate your journaling).

Can you help with this problem?
