Why does Floppy show unmounted in file manager? Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by Harold Heinbaugh

I have updated all (4) pc/laptops with 12.04 but Gateway 400 cannot recognize cd-rom. /media shows floppy and floppy0. This laptop has no floppy drives attached. When a cd is inserted the drive exercises but will not show in file manager of apps list.

What boot up file is used and is there a script file available to assist system to recognoze cd-rom?

Add following to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (use sudo or gksu to run your editor):

blacklist floppy

and reboot...
