Asked by Ian Brownlie

I have 2 external hard drives, A seaview 1.3 Tb and a maxtor 500Gb. There was a total power outage while accessing the 500Gb drive. On reboot the computer cannot see the maxtor drive. I have tried gparted and disk utility. Yes I do have surge protection on all my power supply. Can anyone assist please, I need access to some of the information. Ian

Why do you not have a backup?
What file system does the USB storage use?

I do have backup, but unfotunately its on another computer 1000Km from where I am. I have been using fat32. Ian

Then I suggest you fsck it in LInux, or chkdsk it in Windows. FAT32 is not very robust at all.

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. I feel like a total dope this morning. I booted up the computer and the external drive was there. Go figure. Thanks again Ian.
