"Chingling Cheapo" MP3 Player not recognized on 12.04

Asked by Mudito

I have a non-identifiable MP3 and it is not recognized in 12.04, I don't know the brand because it is one of those made in China and re-branded in the sale country (New Zealand, in my case). It is seen as standard USB disk drive by Win XP on the same machine, in Ubuntu it only charge though, cannot access the contents. Here is some output:

If you boot without the device attached (remember to safe remove it in either OS). Log in and let teh OS settle. then run:

lsusb; sleep 20; dmesg | tail; lsb_release -a; lsusb

After the lsusb command completes, shove in the device (hence the 20 second wait) and let the command complete.

What is the output please, paste it here as an update

Thanks

Done. Nice trick, looks like it is a "Coby". Any suggestions now?

If you add the boot option:

usb-storage.quirks=1e74:4641:rw

It may help
