My 12.04 system still has the devices, although in a different place than I expected. Are you mounting the /dev/fd/0 device and it is failing, or did you try the old, now nonexistent /dev/fd0 device?

device works in other os,not in ubuntu 11.10,,,not sure but i beleived it worked at instation time ,do not use very often.thanks

does not read device,like no disk install at all when i hit detect disk it tries to read or mount, but nothing.........

fdisk-l no floppy disk detected,was there on instation??????????????so how do i reinstall the floppy drive????????????,,,thanks

Maybe it helps to find the module and add it to /etc/modules.
lsmod | grep floppy
sudo modprobe -v floppy

sudo modprobe -v floppy,I get nothing,sorry about that just mis typo not in ubuntu,just here.I did report the bug sam

Downloaded mtools which seem to work,,,,permission seems to be at bottom of the problem how do I reset all permission back to begining status??????????
