Disk has a few bad sectors

Asked by Ronnie Barnes

Hi

Disk Utility shows that my disk has a few bad sectors.

Hard Disk Smart Data
Power Cycles 961
Bad Sectors 50 Bad Sectors

ID 1 Good Read Error rate
ID 3 Good Spin Up Time
ID 5 Good Reallocated Sector Count

ID 197 Red Warning Current Pending Sector Count
Numbers of sectors waiting to be remapped. If the sector waiting to be remapped is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on the sector will not remap the sector, it will only be remapped on a dailed write attempt.
Normalized 200
Worst 200
Threshold 0
Value 50 sectors
The Rest of the ID's all Grey N/A

Previously I had some booting problems with the option to do a repair. until I lost Grub. Grub2 repair was sort of fix until everything was nearly completly messed up. I did a new installation of Ubuntu 11.10 problems started when i tryed to partition the hard drive then it was difficult to boot. Without Partitioning the whole system is running fine with different users and booting time is fast and no complains from the system and applications.
Is there a way to repair the bad sectors?

the drive is mechanically failing I'd run a final backup and get new. It will only get worse with time

Can you help with this problem?
