Property calculations wrong on root folder?

When reading properties on / root(inode directoty) Ubuntu 11.10 reports 400,691 items, totalling 140.8 TB
(some contents unreadable), Volume type unknown Freespace 148.3 MB. Drive size in the netbook is 142 GB.
What is the procedure for cleaning up this fubar?

Wiped Win 7, reformated and restored with 11.04 and files from UbuntuOne.
