Asked by Henrik Nilsson

I Have a Sony Tablet S and i wish to transfeer files between that and my laptop via USB.

I have the latest Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop but it does not "see" my tablet.

I am NOT a programer or a wizard with computers so i would like a "for dummie" discription if anyone knows what to do.

Thanks
Henke

So you want to connect between using a USB cable?

Do you have a wireless router which both systems connect to?

I own a Xperia Ray. Maybe you ahve to switch between MSC and MTP on your device.
Something similar to:
Settings -> Sony Erricson -> Connectivity -> Choose MTP
Hope it helps.

I have a USB cable between my laptop and the Tablet. The thing is that it works automaticly if i connect my Tablet to a computer that uses Windows. Then my Tablet pops up just like a USB memorystick and i can transfer files between my computer and Tablet.

Ubuntu cant find my Tablet that way so what i am looking for is a driver or something similar so it does.

Boot with the device detached and login, let the system settle then attach the device, wait10 seconds and run:

sudo fdisk -l; lsb_release -a; uname -a

What is output?

You have confused to question by mentioning networking. The USB connection is not a network, its just a USB connection.

I have no idea what that means, but if you could get something from it that would help..... Hmm, just noticed that some text is in swedish, hope that it doesnt cause any problems.

Btw, yes i have a wireless router also. The tablet is using Android 2.3. If it would be possible to transfer files that way too i would like to know how.

If you mean that i should download that "usb mounter app" from andoid market i could not find it, there are a lot of apps that sounds like t does pretty much the same thing. I'm going to test one. But why is it that windows can find it when i just plug in the USB and Ubuntu does not? Ubuntu finds a USB memorystick easily.

Windows is extremely catered for by companies so a LOT of stuff will work in Windows which does not work in Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
