USB ports not working

Asked by Ernesto Mata

I took a perfectly working (although aging) HP Pavilion XT938 (RAM 1GB -maxed out-, 40GB HD), deleted Win XP and installed the 3 flavors of Ubuntu (11.04). As I was trying to transfer data files into the machine, I found that the USB ports would not work, neither the ones in the back (4 USB 1.1 from factory) nor the ones in the front (4 USB 2.0, an upgrade). I haven't gotten to the point of verifying if transferring files through Ethernet is possible, but no USB access is a major limitation for me. What is the proper procedure to make the USB 2.0 to work on Ubuntu?

Hello,

Go to the Synaptic Package Manager and uninstall usbmount.

This worked for me.

Regards,

Allan :)

Thanks Allan. But I think my problem was that I did not have usbmount installed, so I installed it and it seems to be working.

Hello,

As long as it works that is what counts. I will reinstall usbmount and see if it conflicts.

Regards,

Allan :)
