Asked by lizz

I've had this great toshiba laptop for about two years. a year and a half ago i left it to charge over night and aparently there was an aweful thunderstorm that FRIED my harddrive. :( i previously had windowsbput that went with all my ...Everything that was on the HD. i downloaded lynex, ubuntu and so far it's been great but it doesn't seem to be reading my nikon information so i can't upload any of my vacation photos, my sisters wedding photos... I'm bummed! i already lost a bunch of other ones from the hard drive frying out. is there anything that can be done? Please say yes... (but not if it's a lie.) thank you.

It's Linux, not lynex.

You should have a backup if your data is important to you. How does the camera connect to the system?

We need more information. What happens when you connect your camera to the computer? Have you tried taking the memory card from the camera and using your computer's card reader (assuming it has one) to access the files directly on the card?

Oops... it should have been an information request and not an answer. Sorry about that.

Thanks action... you really didn't help at all though. Devious, no card reader. ubuntu doesn't seem to be able to translate the nikon equipment at all. just followed the process step x step on a friends computer w/ windows and worked just fine. I'm not quite sure why this didn't work on my computer... i like ubuntu a lot. this was just very inconvenient. thanks anyway.
