my compyer lost power and now wont see hard drive says it is busy

my computer came unplugged and therefore want shut down properly now ubuntu wont load back up it says drive isnt there

in live cd mode it says its is busy so it cant be mounted

fsck the drive in live CD. You may need to force mount the partition, then umount it gracefully

is it supposed to take a really long time to force mount it? it seems like its not doing anything ..

yes, it just has flashing cursor , its been almost an hour

ok well is there anyway to save the files from the hard drive?

I want to copy them to an external drive but obviously the computers not reading it.

Do you see anything if you type the following?

sudo fdisk -l

It should show you the partitions on the hard drive.

Then for any partitions that show as "Linux" (Not Linux swap or Linux LVM etc. Just Linux) try:

sudo fsck /dev/sdaN

(e.g. /dev/sda1)

Maybe that will fix it, but it depends on exactly what the problem is.
