missing software to sync lg gt540 (android 2.1) to Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Mark Tolra

I brought a LG GT540 phone believing that it was drag and drop and therefore would work like all other hardware I've used. I followed all the steps but can't install the software on ubuntu (LG PC suite IV available from www.lgapplication.com) and when I try and just connect the phone directly Ubuntu doesn't recognise and/or acknowledge the fact that I have installed a SD drive to it. I want to connect the phone to the computer to move music on to the phone.

Any suggestions or fixes?

The suite will not install (I have a GT540). Once you attach the device, drag down the top bar and tell the phone to mount the storage. You can now access the data in your SD card. If you do not tell your phone to mount it then it will only charge the phone for you

Incidentally, if you use transmission then enable the web ui and you can control it with transdroid. Very cool because torrents can be opened on your phone in transdroid and it will be opened on your server. Dead handy. You can also remote control VLC with several apps if you enable the http interface.

Rock and roll.

Thanks actionparsnip
