invalid mount option

Asked by Lola Franklin

I am totally new to this and don't have any idea what's going on here.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex and when I try to mount my CD drive it pops up with "invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume".
How do I fix this?!

How are you trying to mount the drive? By clicking on it in the Places menu? By running a mount command in the Terminal? Or using some other method?

Ubuntu 8.10 has not been supported for quite some time. It's not supported here...and it's also not supported with security updates. You put yourself at risk by continuing to use it. You should upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (which you can do in the Update Manager). From there, you could upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 (also in the Update Manager...after booting into the 10.04 LTS system) if you wanted to. After upgrading, if you still experience this problem, please post again. If you answer the above questions without upgrading and I see an easy fix, I'll mention it...but as I said, Ubuntu 8.10 is no longer supported.
