Partition types

Asked by Ed DeWan

I have two hard disks: 1) 500 gb primary disk with Windows XP installed, and 2) 320 gb secondary disk with Ubuntu 10.10 installed from CD. Ubuntu can see disk 1), but Win XP cannot see disk 2). Is this because the partition type on disk 2) is Linux? If I re-install Ubuntu Linux, can I specify the HPFS/NTFS partition type, and would this allow both systems to see each other?

Hello Ed DeWan,

Generally, most Windows cannot see ubuntu's partition, but you can erase it or change it from Windows.

As I know, you should do the partitions before installing ubuntu, and then you'll see them from Windows, but I'm not really sure.

Anyway, it's normal.

Can you help with this problem?
