live cd no mount

Asked by Ritchie Eanes

I want to use the live CD but I do not want the hard drive to mount. When I used OpenOffice to access the hard drive I see that it automatically mounts the drive. I want to protect the contents of my hard disk but use the live CD for classroom presentations by loading the presentations from the web or from CD or from usb flask disk, but I do not want the hard disk to be available. My primary reason for this is to prevent access to or from the hard disk by other users who use the computer solely for presentations. Is it possible to make it so that Ubuntu will not allow automatic mounting of the hard disk. As soon as Ubuntu live loads, can I disable the click and mount so that if students call on the hard drive for their presentations, they will not be able to view or change anything on the hard disk? thank you. I have looked into the help. If something else has already been written on this subject, please could you give me the link? thank you.

okay. you're running all over the place.
take a deep breath and explain what you would like to do. don't include anything irrelevant like you don't want anyone touching the hard drive. you can give an example, such as powerpoint presentations, after you explain what you want.

"I do not want the hard drive to mount" : Mount the hard drive in read only, but for this you will need to boot from hard disk!
I presume you take problem by "wrong extremity".
In fact you want to define users with different privileges on folders of a hard disk.
The solution I plan is:
1-install Ubuntu under you name and don't disclose your password
2-set privileges of your whole home folder to write right for yourself and only read rights for group and others
3-define a student account and provides its password for student

If your name is "teacher"
cd $HOME
chown -R g-w o-w $HOME

after log as student and check they can read and move inside folder, but modify any files.

Can you help with this problem?
