ttyUSB0 no such file or directory

Asked by Steve Satterfield

I've enabled USB devices on my VirtualBox on which I have installed ubuntu linux 10.10, and I need to set my MOTECOM environment variable up to a USB port, however there are no /dev/ttyUSBx files or folders.

Please advise.

thanks,

steve satterfield

I don't think virtualbox supports USB without buying the commercial version.

If you are using a windows host, this is a problem with your host OS's software installation.

You probably don't have to buy anything--the proprietary version is freeware for personal and educational use.

ttyUSBn usually is the device name for a GSM/UMTS modem connected via USB and it gets automatically created when you plug such a device in, and it gets removed when you unplug it. I have never used virtualbox, so I do not know how that works together.

Can you help with this problem?
