Western Digital portable hard drive working on Ubuntu?

Hello,

I have a 1TB Western Digital My Passport Essential portable hard drive and I want to know if it work with Ubuntu 10.04, I am planning on upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10. I use it on Windows 7 Home Premium for right now. I have all my music and videos on this portable hard drive.

I use the 500GB version -- it worked out of the box. However I formatted it to ext4 because I knew I did not need to use it on a windows machine.

If you want to store stuff I would recommend two smaller drives rather than one large one, that way you have a backup.

Ok. Well my hard drive is formatted as a NTFS will it still work as is?

Yes. Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) and up have read/write enabled.
