How do I get my computer tosee my phone?

Asked by Barbara Maver

My computer used to be able to see my phone but now it doesn't. It may be since I upgraded the Ubuntu to the latest version (lynx) or it may be something else. Anyway I would like to be able to put my photos on the computer and maybe even put some music on my phone.
I thought I was needing a new computer as my sansa music player wasn't working either but I have got that sorted now by contacting their support. You need to put the player to a particular setting and the computer sees it. I don't know how I would do this with the phone. The phone is an LG cookie. Can you help. I looked at the applications to add but can't see anything I think would be helpful.

The step I have taken is I have plugged the phone into the USB point on the computer by a cable supplied with the phone. I expect to see a picture of the phone or to see something about the phone in computer in places but there is nothing.

Hi Barbara.
It looks that Ubuntu isn't mounting your phone, I had a similar problem with an Flash USB.
You could mount it using an app from Ubuntu Software Centre, Mountmanager and while open plug your phone, if its still not working select the device in mountmanager and right-click on the device, set auto-mounting and then in the app, Partition Apply.
P.D. Be carefull with not touching other devices.

Ok, maybe that application isn't in the default repositories, look if you have enabled all repositories in System ->Administration -> Synaptic -> Configuration -> Repositories, and then you mark all first four checkboxes. Close. Refresh in Synaptic, and now you can search "mountmanager" and install it.

Good luck.

Hi
I did that but still can't find the mountmanager. I don't think that is
the problem though as the phone battery charge icon is working when it's
plugged in to the computer. I just don't see the phone on the screen
either on the desk top or in the computer. I think that would mean that it
was mounted.

Hi

Thanks for your help so far.

I have been looking online for support from LG. I tried to download the
support guide for my phone but the download failed as it was for windows
only. I think you must need to have this on your computer to be able to
see photos and transfer music. I was able to use my last LG phone with
this computer but now it seems it needs to have windows unless there is
an Ubuntu app for it but I can't see any for phones.

1) What is the operating system of phone (Nokia, Android, ...) ?
2) Could you open a terminal, unplug phone, and type command
   lsusb
then plug phone, wait 30 seconds, and type again
   lsusb
If phone is detected, you should see a new line. Could you post it ?
3) Do you see phone in Upper Bar->Places ?
4) What's the exact model of phone ?

Can you help with this problem?
