List of Compatiple internal Hard Drives for linux

purchased a Western Digital 1T Hard drive to transfer my old computer onto, currently running Ubuntu 10.? I can find the 1t in BIOS but can not get Ubuntu to mount it, nor can I get it to install Kubuntu from CD. is there a list of known manufacturers of Internal Hard Drives that are compatible with Linux

that option was not available to me. the only thing I could do was register the HG through BIOS at the f10 screen, upon boot up.

Quite all disk less than 1.2TB are compatible, as SATA interface is a standard. Problem could arise with RAID.
You could boot on Ubuntu CD whit option "Try without install", than run System->Administration->Gparted, and partition your disk (if it is visible, but it should) before installation. I advise 10GB for system partition ("/"), around 2GB for swap and the remaining for user partition ("/home").
