can't get cd-rom/rw to mount

I can't seem to get my cd rw drive to be accepted or even found by the system. works fine on other systems (IDE CD-RW drive and IBM think centre with latest Ubuntu and all updates)

The OS is called UBUNTU (pronounced OO-BOON-TOO)

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C disk; sudo lshw -C drive; cat /etc/fstab

Can you help with this problem?
