SATA drive not recognised

Asked by David_g

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 9.xx.

If I insert a SATA drive whilst the machine is running it does not recognise it, it did under the previous Ubuntu.

If I re-boot all is well, the drive is there.

Is there a command to get Ubuntu to recognise the drive without re-booting?

Is there a problem with 10.04?

Thank you,

David.

There are 600 bugs logged against Lucid, so yes there are problems.....

How does the SATA drive connect, via USB / Firewire. You cannot connect a drive to the SATA on the internal motherboard without something going bang.

check and make sure ACHI mode is enable in bios. if so, then its a configuration issue.

Further information, I am using a cady to connect the SATA drive, it does not go bang.

I cannot find ACHI in the bios, it is the latest bios and this set up worked with the previous Ubuntu.

Is there a command I can use to re-scan the SATA drives without re-booting?

Thank you,

David.

You should've mentioned the caddy in the question. You could try:

sudo fdisk -l

Do the drives show?

After you plug another in you may need to run:

sudo modprobe -r foo; sleep 5; sudo modprobe foo

replace foo with the kernel driver running the sata. The output of:

lsmod

Will show the current modules loaded but it may take some experimenting. I suggest you also log a bug

Can you help with this problem?
