autorun prompt to install cd rom-permission denied

Asked by erco06

My newly installed cd rom is in etc/fstab. It says its mounted and status is ready. I get the cd rom icon on my desktop, but it wont let me install the software because permission denied. How do I get into root to add me to write instead of only read? I need exact input please. Not to swift on the " terminal" lingo. Greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe what you need is Wine to execute the autorun.exe file. You can download and instal WINE from the Ubuntu Software Center. WINE is used to run Windows programs.

At the risk of sounding totally stupid, WINE can be used in the Linux OS? Also what about the permission denied error. Do I have to get into a root file and change something, and if so what? Thanks for any help.

WINE is already on computer. In terminal sudo lshw shows cd rom. Not computer savvy. Having a meltdown.
