Read-only file system (30)

Asked by Pedro Bessa

While trying to sync from hd to pendrive, I get many error messages like:

"/media/KINGSTON/www/ilovedvc/vendors/shells/templates": Read-only file system (30)

I run gksudo nautilus and tried to change the owner to root, to change permission to write, but couldn't change the owner, because the file-system was read-only.

What should I do?

Your pendrive filesystem device has errors on it so is mounted as read only...

Please perform a disk check from Windows... to mark the filesystem clean....

Then please be sure to unmount it before unplug it from the pc...

If you want to use Ubuntu:
please do a fsck on the external device

or

copy the entire content to a temporary directory into Ubuntu and installing and using gparted recreate the filesystem... on the external device...

Pelase copy and paste the result of this terminal command (with usb plugged and mounted):

mount

I tried:
fsck -> fat 1 -> correct -> fsck said it left the pendrive unchanged
fsck -> fat 2 -> correct -> fsck said it left the pendrive unchanged

I had to use scandisk in Windows, then the pendrive was corrected.
