Sansa Clip plus has read-only permissions.

Asked by Bob Gillaspy

My Sansa Clip+ mp3 player will not let me copy files to it. When mounted in MSC mode, the response from a copy effort is that the disk is read-only. The result of a "ls -la" command is "drwx------". I have tried to use "chmod" to change permissions to 755 with no change in permissions. This was tried under the SUDO password.
I have tried using Rhythmbox when mounted in MTP mode, but no files are copied. The latest SANSA software is installed on the device.
I am able to use Windows to copy files. I would like to use Ubuntu.

May be you have errors on the Sansa Clip plus filesystem.
Ubuntu if detect a filesystem with errors mount it in read only mode, windows not detect errors and give the read and write permissions on device with errors.

Thanks for your quick response.
Can you tell me how to check the Sansa Clip plus filesystem for errors
and how to correct those errors?

Thanks, Bob

please manage your question not using mail but open the question link with your browser:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+question/119629

Then please use windows and force a complete filesystem check on that device.

Please refer to win help on how to do it.

My apologies for using email. The auto-response containing your answer indicated that email response was acceptable.
Windows was unable to clean the file system. I reformatted the drive and now Ubuntu allows me to write music files to the device.
I am using MSC mode and copying files from a separate drive to the device.
Again, thanks for your help and quick response. This solves the problem I was having.
