always mount read only

Asked by frank

I have Ubuntu 10.04 on a bootable thumb drive. I want to make sure all drives (internal or attached) are mounted as read only.
Once the machine is booted and Ubuntu starts i want to attach an external drive and write only to it. The drive i attach is different each time. So the question what do i need to do to make sure i don't write unless i specifically allow it?

You can install a mount manager and specify the "ro" (read only) option when you mount one of those partitions.

However:
-I don't know which software supports the "ro" option. But I'm quite sure at least one of them will do.
-Ubuntu try to automount the removable medias that you plug in... So if you don't want that, you need to configure it to block this behavior. I don't know how to do that on a Live USB.

Can you help with this problem?
