Unable to use usbip

Asked by RW Shore

The usbip commands (usbip_bind_driver and usbipd) are part of the vivid release, but the release appears to be missing critical kernel modules required for these commands to work. Specifically, an attempt to run usbipd in daemon mode reports

usbip err: stub_driver.c: 33 (open_sysfs_stub_driver) usbip_common_mod.ko and usbip.ko must be loaded

These modules aren't in the kernel I have installed:

3.19.0-18-generic #18-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 19 18:31:35 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The .ko files don't seem to be anywhere on disk. I can't find any specific information on installing the usbip complex under vivid. Is there some trick that I'm missing, or is this a configuration bug in the release?
