bootmgr is missing

Asked by rdonnelly

I am unable to boot with 2 different PC's, a Dell dimension E310 give the message at boot, "bootmgr is missing" I tried booting like this by using select boot device as well as setting the USB stick as the only bootable device in the bios setup.

The other PC is a generic Via machine. It just displays "GRUB _ " and goes no further.

I tried Unebootin and got the same error. It seems the Dell should be able to boot a kingston DTI-8GB usb flash drive.

Well, it turns out if you have an external USB hard drive plugged in it gives the error, once I unplugged the drive it booted of fine with the USB flash drive.
