hiw extremely unhelpful. I have been checking for months and found no
answers, fix your tags or provide a link instead of "I do not want to
answer"

Hi,

Sometimes I also got this problem, mouse cursor and keyboard frozen (eg toggling Num Lock won't work), so no way to get into console mode tty1 with CTRL+ALT+F1.

I was told to try to do a ssh access from an other computer to try to shut it down. Never tried it.

So I just power off the computer by keeping pressed the power button 4 sec (or unplug the power cord if nothing else works).

You may need to check the RAM as such problems could be linked to defectuous or bad-quality RAM (The memory test can be started from the GRUB menu => press shift at boot start to display Grub menu if using 10.04, you need to run the memory test for an extensive time, eg overnight.).

Hope that helps.
