Ubuntu 10.04 takes too long to shut down

Asked by RamonP

I recently installed Lucid on two Toshiba L650 laptops in a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything goes well except that the system takes way too long too shut down or restart and I think that it also takes too long to boot up. I've been looking everywhere for a solution, but so far, I haven't found the right one.

Thanks

Also: When you boot up the computer, and when you shut it down, you can press Escape (or if that doesn't work, F2) to see text describing what is happening. By doing this, you may be able to identify a specific step (or specific steps) in startup and shutdown that take a long time. Please tell us which steps these are (you can just tell us what it says it's doing, you don't necessarily have to understand what operation it represents).

Can you help with this problem?
