whenever i try to install something a notice pops up saying it can't read gksudo in the 1st line of etc....

Whnever i try to open synaptic package manager it says:E: Type 'gksudo' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

i am running ubuntu 9.10

Try to change the starter's command to "gksu /usr/sbin/synaptic" (without the "" of course). I further assume your sources.list is ok. Check it with "sudo nano -v /etc/apt/sources.list" though. Finaly a cache open error was displayed. Maybe you'd check that too by entering "sudo nano -v /var/log/messages" or "sudo nano -v /var/log/lastlog". In case this doesn't help try to find answers using a search engine or tell us the results of the aforementioned commands here.

well, i tried it, now it doesn't recognize gksu....i think i will just reinstall ubntu, cause i didn't really install much...

Unfortunately I do not have the powers to change the state of this question to SOLVED, EXPIRED or INVALID. Someone here at Launchpad either grant me that permission or simply apply the change in state to this question, please.
