repositories 9.10 karmic problem

Asked by tasos0017

hello to all.i have a problem with my sources.list when i run etc/apt/sources.list i get a "No such file or directory". The same with gedit etc/... i get a blank gedit document.

in my software sources- other software, i have these repositories enabled:

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic partner
http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic partner (Source Code)
http://ppa.launchpad.net/artfwo/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
http://ppa.launchpad.net/artfwo/ppa/ubuntu karmic main (Source Code)
http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

when i update i , in terminal i see many "fail" and "hit" in packages status tab.
I want to ask why i don t get the sources.list and also if i have all the default and correct repositories. (because i remember some repositories with "restricted" or "main" at the end. for example: http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic restricted
                                                                                                           http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic restricted (Sourse Code)
shouldnt i have those too?)

Thanks

Looks fine. If you click on the links:

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic partner (Source Code)

http://ppa.launchpad.net/artfwo/ppa/ubuntu karmic main (Source Code)

Do they show the contents of the server ok?

karmic-proposed isn't recommended, unless you know how to fix conflicts.
Could be you've already downloaded some proposed which causes the issue.
However, please post the output of:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Unchanged default sources.list (main server):

you mean i have to change the server? i m in a greek server.. or do you mean i have to put other repositories? i have also these (not enabled) :

ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-updates main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-security main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-proposed main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-backports main multiverse restricted universe

should i replace the "archive.canonical" whith these?

i have made updates with only "archive.canonical" and with "otenet.gr" too
what should i keep?

If you like copy&paste the above (default) sources.list. You may add any time later what is missing for your special needs.
For the moment it should do to just update the system with a 'clean' sources.list.
Make sure not to run more than one update manager, e.g. Synaptic and terminal together.
You may also disable 'proposed' in system administration -> repositories

Rename current sources.list:
sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.backup
Create a new sources.list:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

When finished update as before.

Hey sam i did as you told and run those commands. The gedit sources.list document came out empty. In "software sources- ubuntu software" everything was uncheked. In repositiries i had only this : http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main and checked ! (why did that remain?)
I added these ones with "deb" infront, otherwise it wouldn t take them.(i dont know if thats right)

ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-updates main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-security main multiverse restricted universe
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-proposed main multiverse restricted universe (disabled)
ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-backports main multiverse restricted universe

Will i get all the "main" updates with these you think?
The gedit /etc/apt/sources.list i get now is:

deb http://ubuntu.otenet.gr/ karmic main universe restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-security universe main restricted
deb http://ubuntu.otenet.gr/ karmic-updates universe main restricted
deb ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic main multiverse restricted universe
deb ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-updates main multiverse restricted universe
deb ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-security main multiverse restricted universe
# deb ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-proposed main multiverse restricted universe
deb ftp://ftp.otenet.gr/ubuntu karmic-backports main multiverse restricted universe
# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/artfwo/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/artfwo/ppa/ubuntu karmic main (Source Code)
