Update Problem because of server authentication

Asked by Samarth Gupte

At my college we have proxy server which requires authentication (i.e. Username and Password) prior to internet access so i am not able to update Ubuntu because it doesn't have the option of entering my login details before the update, because of which the access to internet is not granted to the update manager program and hence the update is not carried successfully.
is there any solution to this problem..?? do i have any option of entering the login details prior to update process..

You may have a look at this tutorial:

http://unixmen.com/linux-tutorials/514-configure-ubuntu-910-behind-a-proxy-

Should be more or less the same with 9.04 Jaunty and other versions.

You should just change the proxy settings in synaptic and update manager will follow it.
Open synaptic go to Settings-> preferences->network and add the proxy server and the authentication you need..
It should work..

Can you help with this problem?
