When I want to Update i receive this message about ADOBE-FLASHPLUGIN
" The package 'adobe-flashplugin' is in an inconsistent state and needs to be reinstalled, but no archive can be found for it. Please reinstall the package manually or remove it from the system."

Then I can't Reinstall it because it says it can't.

Its a terminal command

You can access the terminal by pressing alt+f2
type: gnome-terminal
press enter
paste the command into the terminal and press enter you will get an output
copy the output using the mouse and paste the output here as an update

Its not a case of being a "tech person", its a case of reading the instructions and running them. You don't have to be a "tech person" to be able to do that.

ok thats not good.

ok run this command:

sudo apt-get --purge remove adobe-flashplugin; sudo dpkg -P adobe-flashplugin; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Should be ok now.

sudo apt-get --reinstall install adobe-flashplugin

Then run my previos command. You have a damaged package which is screwing stuff up. This is the massive weakness in package based systems.

No unfortunately you need to get it reinstalled

try:

sudo dpkg --force-all -i /var/cache/apt/archives/adobe-flashplugin*

Will force install the deb and get you squared up

Try this :

Go to the System menu, choose Administration, choose Synaptic package manager.

After entering your own password on the Dialog box, enter flashplugin in the search field (verify that in the left-down column the category ALL is selected - should be by default). It should show up a few packages. If you can locate something like flashplugin-nonfree with a green-colored square, you can then right-click on the package to show-up a list of actions. Then you ccan choose to suppress the desired package, or reinstall it or to install it (after suppressing completely). You need an active internet connection, of course.

One alternative choice instead of going back to Windows XP (ang buy it) would be to try to install Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty jackalope which might work better, until problems with 9.10 get sorted and solutions found out.

Ok This is A reply For -Vu Do Quynh -----------
Ok yeah Itried going to Synaptic package manager and all it tells me @ start up "E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report." and then once I close that Error report , it closes Synaptic package manager also , so I can't even access Synaptic package manager.
Thanks For the help!!!
And if you have any other helpful thing to tell me please feel free to do so!!

OK.

try this (I'm not sure of it because I never had to solve a problem like yours)

Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)

Type and launch the command

sudo aptitude keep-all (this is to try to suppress all actions on the flashplugin package)

then (in error messages appear report them - if nothing appears then it sounds that everything is ok) type the command

sudo aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree (here the action y/N will depends on the output... : if it proposes you to install the package, answer Yes (Y) and after that you should see in the terminal the downloading of the Flash plugin package (from the Adobe web site) at 50K per line.

Hope that helps.

ok

Try

sudo aptitude purge flashplugin-nonfree (to try to remove it completely)

and

sudo aptitude purge adobe-flashplugin (to try to remove it compeltely)

Then try

sudo aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree (to try to reinstall)

If it doesn't work, copy here the content of the command

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

OK

This is my last shot, if it doen't work, I suggest you redo a fresh install of Karmic (or of Jaunty, precedent version of Ubuntu that worked nice) instead of upgrading and when you(re done, just install the package ubuntu-restricted-extras.

I find the following info on this page:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adobe-flashplugin/+bug/371890

Read the comment #9 that says:

This is what fixed me up:
http://forum.ubuntu.cz/index.php/topic,37765.msg277499.html#msg277499
 sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/adobe-flashplugin.prerm
 sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq adobe-flashplugin

here the command "rm" will remove the file adobe-flashplugin.prerm

You may wish to verify the presence of it with the following command before rm it:

ls -l /var/lib/dpkg/info/adobe-flashplugin.prerm (you may use the Tab key for automatic completion)

Beware that there may be some other turnaround: read the comment #13 from Fabio Rodriguez...

Good luck.

If you want to avoid all this crap you can simply download the tar.gz from adobe's website and put the .so file in ~/.mozilla/plugins

You will have to manually update the plugin yourself by checking the site. There is also a 64bit alpha native plugin which is manually downloadable as the 64bit ubuntu still uses nspluginwrapper + 32bit flash.

Glad you got the gold though :D

Only because its a new OS to you, you probably have many years of experience with Windows and not much with Linux so a comparison is not hugely fair. If you had the same amount of experience with Linux you would find it very easy to use.

The easiest solution was to add the partner repo of Canonical:

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu CODENAME partner

And then aptitude update and install the bugger.
