Upgrade Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10: cannot connect to the release notes and to check my internet connection, error

Asked by ROB3RT

When I go to the Update Manager to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, I wait a little while, and then, I am told that it cannot connect to the release notes and to check my internet connection. Obviously I am on the internet, so how can I directly upgrade to 9.10, without having to put it onto a live cd?
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps!

Right now the main server is overloaded. Change your source to your country server in System -> Administration -> Software Source -> Then the "Download from:" option box to "Server for United State", or Other, and whatever country you are in. close, then try the update manager -d again.

When I tried installing it, it said I needed more disk space. How can I resize the partition with Ubuntu on it?
Thanks

Hi yankee, You should open this as another question IMHO. Boot with a live CD, and then use gparted to resize the partition. To do the resize, you can't have it mounted which is why a livecd (or USB, etc) is the way to go. Cheers.

Hi,

This should really be a new question I think, but I'll comment in here...

1. update-manager is no longer to run happy via sudo - better to run it as a normal user, and it can do the check for packages without privileged access, then if there are updates, it will prompt you for your password, elevate the privileges, and apply updates.

2. Your sources are 'off' - since it is looking for jaunty, and intrepid but doesn't have karmic. What do you get if you type 'lsb_release -rd'? Whatever rev it says should be all you have in your sources. You can try going into Synaptic Package Manger -> Settings -> Repositories and check all the tabs (esp other software) to make sure that revs for other versions (vs what is installed) aren't checked (you don't want them used)
