gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.
You have been adding PPA repos, but not getting the GPG keys.
Once you have ran that long command (Copy the whole thing and paste into a terminal). Can you then paste th eoutput of:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade
Thanks

gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.
If you get any error about GPG keys you can use the same command. Just replace the code in the output.

Hi actionparsnip,
Thank you for your help.
I followed your advice.
I am not sure if I got any error about GPG keys. How do I use the same command by 'Just replace the code in the output'?
Could you please help me by elaborating on the help you gave me. How could I do the following?

Please find the output of the Terminal appended below.
sp@sp-desktop:~$ gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.

So the gpg repository keys are ok now... to fully upgrade your system using terminal...
open a Terminal from the menu Applications-
Tip: right click with mouse on the terminal title caption and select the item "Always on Top" doing this you will force the terminal window to stay on top of the other windows and you will find very easy to copy single row from this web page into the terminal...
Something more about using the terminal https:/
Then type or better copy and paste a row a time then press enter:
(Tip: select the single row to copy then right click into the terminal and to quick paste click with middle button of mouse )
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove
and if is needed, then please reboot your system, type
sudo reboot
give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much folks!
I think that has solved the problem.
I tried the udate manager and it seems to work. However, I do get the following message, "Failed to fetch http://
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."
Please let me know if I can ignore the above message.
Thanks again.
God bless!

To be sure is not a transient please try to run this command twice
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Then please also consider to remove or to rem the line putting a "#" char at very beginning of the line in the /etc/apt/
sudo gedit /etc/apt/
save and exit, then redo the
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Hoep this helps

I followed your suggestions. (The output has been appended below). I then checked update manager but still got the error message, "Failed to fetch http://
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."
Please let me know if there is anything I need to do? Sorry to keep bothering you.

Hi,
I did look in the webpages of all the 3 links you sent me (abiove) but it appears to me that there is no 'sources.list' there.
However, I'm not sure this is because I am new to Linux and not very proficient. Please help.
Thanks.

ah ha you have a malformed line.
run:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/
and change
deb http://
to
deb http://
deb-src http://
Save the new file, close gedit then run:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade
done

Hi,
That worked. I am both grateful & relieved. Now my update manager runs fine.
Thank you so much. Take care.

Watch what you add to files in the OS. It has very little fuzzy logic so malformed lines will make issues.

Thank you actionparsnip, that fixed the problem for me also. I tried a lot of other things and this was the first to work.
How do these malformed lines you speak of occur in the first place?
