Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

Then make sure to close all open programs, including all package managers like Synaptic, etc ...

Then please try this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
sudo dpkg --clear-avail
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo aptitude install -f
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

I am having the same error on my Mini 9 - I ran the sudo dpkg --configure -a line in Terminal and it shows:

Processing triggers for initramfs -tools ..
update - initramfs: Generating /boot.initrd.img - 2.6.24 - 22 - lpia
Setting up capplets-data (1:2.22.1-0ubuntu4.1usg6) ...
[blinking cursor]

How long should this step take and is it done? What should be done next? Let it sit for a while and continue to run a program or close the Terminal window and try to run the Updater again??

Thank you and hope I am not sidetracking the op.
-Andy

I'd let it do it thing. It sounds like a large package:

From: http://packages.ubunut.com/hardy/gnome/capplets-data
This package contains data files (icons, pixmaps, locales files) needed by the configuration applets in the gnome-control-center package.
