Update Manager

Asked by S.Vikash Koushik

Hi Guys,

I just managed to update my Jaunty to Karmic using the repositaries. Here is what I typed.

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic restricted
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic multiverse

I hope that I typed it correctly. Now the problem that I am facing is that when I go to the Update Manager, after checking for updates,I get a pop up saying that Not All Updates Can be Installed & have to options of Partial Install and obviously the other being close. What is wrong??

When I go to settings in Update Manager, the settings window is not opening and the update manager is just checking for updates and not opening the settings window for the update manager.

Hi,

It should be noted that you really shouldn't try upgrading to Karmic on any sort of "production" system. That is, any system that you depend on for day to day use. If, however, you feel like testing out the possibly very very unstable Alpha releases, you should be able to upgrade by doing the following:

1) Press Alt+F2
2) Type: update-manager -c -d
3) Press Run.

That should launch update manager and start the upgrade to the development version. However, be aware that upgrading to an Alpha is not guaranteed to work at all and can easily break your system. Further, even if the upgrade works, your system may break at any point in the development cycle.
