ubuntu update

Asked by Vikram Dhillon

Hey,
Alright folks my question is going to sound really silly but anyways here it is: I am using Ultimate Edition 2.1 (because it has greater number of software preinstalled) and I noticed that the update manager said that there was a new distro available Ubuntu 9.04, so if I update will that format my system completely and install Ubuntu 9.04 or just update some of the core stuff in the Ultimate Edition leaving all my other software as it is. I think it should leave everything as is but I am new to linux so any help will be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Vikram

It should just update packages for the new version.

I would make a backup of at least your home directory just in case
something goes wrong, you can at least restore to the way it is currently.
