freshly installed update manager says system up to date

Asked by rajusenthi

Hi
I just reinstalled ubuntu.From the very beginning update manager says your system is up-to-date.I reloaded update manager.After downloading packages update manager says there are 287 updates are available.I'm only having WLL modem connection.Hence I update the system with 4or5 intervels.But each and every time update manager says your system is up to date.Hence I forced to reload update manager every time,It consumes more than 45 minutes to show available updates.(I reformat 'C' and 'G' partitions only).There is no problem with previous installations.What is the problem?

it is hard to tell what the problem is. You always have to hit the reload button to see updates. That downloads the latest listings of packages. If the listings are uptodate, it should go quick.

It sounds like you have a very slow connections, since it takes you so long. For me, it only takes about 15-30 seconds, under 5 if it is already uptodate.

If you are managing multiple systems, maybe use this command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade

Can you help with this problem?
