Right click on the top taskbar and click on "+ Add to panel"? Is there something in the list?

No this do not solve my problem. When i tried to install sudo apt-get install adept-notifier i got the following message Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package adept-notifier is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package adept-notifier has no installation candidate

Just wait a few hours or even days... and then try to install it again.
And you should also install the "ubuntu-desktop" then again to get all other dependencys your system is (for sure) missing.

And consider to not go into PRE-releases if you cannot handle situations like this.

From the "now" state... I'd keep it with the Updates.
I have a system that ran through 4 Alphas and ever between through stable for a few month until getting booooring... now it's really a bit slow... but still running OK.

Some people tell you to always do a fresh install after Alpha/Beta... but really not necessary (in my mind) unless something is really disrupted.

Greetings
