Update Manager not checking for updates

Asked by Mike

Running Intrepid

My update manager is set to check for updates daily but refuses to do so. The only way I can get updates/upgrades is to check for them manually. Not that big of a deal but I like my stuff to work the way it is supposed to. Any thoughts???

Thank you

No error.

It just wont do it automatically. It is set to check daily but it just wont. If I open it up and do it manually, it works fine.

Why do you think so...? Have you already keep Ubuntu switched on for more than one hour in different days... and obviously there must be some incoming updates, to get the orange icon active near the date-time.

Thank you

My system runs for hours at a time on most days. I've experimented by not manually updating for 1 week, letting the system run for 6 hours.....No auto updates......then checking manually only to find several updates available. I've done this several times

Even today, although I think I may have done it manually yesterday and there may NOT be any new updates available since yesterday, my system has run for several hours already and nothing, so if YOU got updates yesterday and more today, I would not even know they were available until I manually checked for them

You must really be starting to love my problems ...... you were trying to help me a few days ago with sound issues
I get some winners don't I (snicker)

Again, Thanks

Hi Mike,

I might have my 2 cents worth.

1. Is the 'Update-Notifer' enabled in your 'sessions preferences' ? If not enable it.

2. Try installing 'packagekit' it does a similar job.

I hope that this helps

Can you help with this problem?
