Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

using gedit menu open edit → preferences, activate "display line numbers" and copy and paste here the content of the file grabbing some rows before and after the line 56

Thank you

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

Replace the rows

‘deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main’
‘deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main’
‘deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main’

with

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main

or if you don't want packages coming from reacocard-awn put a # in fron of them:

# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main

Save and exit then retry the update
