I installed Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and am trying to enable my Nvidia graphics card using system->hardware drivers.
However, I see the following error:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/l/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/nvidia-glx-new_169.12+2.6.24.13-18.41_i386.deb

When I browse out to that location, the file is not there. Where can I find it to install it? Or is there one comparable that I can use.

I am using HP8510w which has Nvidia Quadro FX 570m module. I downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.22-pkg1.run from Nvidia as an alternate, however was not successful in installing that as well. Appreciate any help.

Hi,

I think this is because your apt-cache is out of date and needs to be "refreshed".

First enter the following commands in a Terminal:

sudo aptitude clean
sudo aptitude autoclean
sudo aptitude update
sudo apt-get update

Then send us the output of the following commands:

sudo aptitude search linux-restricted
sudo aptitude search nvidia-glx

it would probably be a good idea to also run

sudo apt-get upgrade

then try to enable the hardware driver after it finishes upgrading the packages. you may need to reboot first if it installs a new kernel or something.

apt-get upgrade >> showed 0 packages to be updated.

Hi,

Please retry enabling your Nvidia graphics card by clicking on System->Hardware drivers and enabling the Nvidia driver in the Hardware Driver list.

It should work now, because you first ran the following command to update the apt-cache:

sudo aptitude update
