Update Mgr goes thrue the motions to update progr and files but I get a warning box

I'm trying to install 164 program updates with Update Mgr. I get a Warning box which said " Another synaptic is running in non-interactive mode, please wait for it to finish first." I can;t figure out what synaptic is or what to do about it ?

Restart your computer, if warning box still appear, open you terminal

type this :
sudo dpkg --configure -a

(it will be ask your password)

At startup (or once time a day) Ubuntu check if there are security updates depending of the settings of "Automatic Updates" under the settings on the System→Administration→Software Sources [updates] tab...

So you may have another automatic package manager running in background simply wait... then retry...

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion to cure my problem.

I'm also guilty of not following the notation I had received the instruction to use ( sudo-dpkg -- configure - a ) and what to do with the note. I have since invoked the Gnome instruction and have solved my problem.
