I keep getting this error:

A problem occured during the update. This is usually some sort of network problem, please check your network connection and retry.

Another page on the ubuntu site suggested I add this to my /etc/apt/sources.list file

deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-security main restricted universe multiverse

but this didn't work either. I would prefer not doing a clean update so are there any suggestions?

I don't know for sure if upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 is still possible
but why you dont use the Ubuntu 8.04 alternate cd to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10
Please read at the end of this official howto http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

Hope this helps

Download the ubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-i386.iso image file from here...

http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/

(if you have installed Ubuntu 7.10 standard 32bits)

Hope this helps

sorry marcobra I guess I wasn't clear. I have 7.04 feisty and need 7.1 to get 8.04. this way I can do a straight upgrade and not have to do a clean/fresh upgrade. If it isn't possible then I'll have to bite the bullet and jump upgrades. thx
