Intrepid Randomly Freezes

Asked by Benjamin Prosnitz

Intrepid freezes randomly for me. Just prior to the freeze, there are no relevant messages in the system logs. I am unable to restart X when this happens.

I would like this fixed, but I'm unsure what further tests I can do to determine the cause.

My friend just installed intrepid 64bit and had the same issue. I was also wondering what we can do to track down the problem.

I meant to have closed this question. My RAM happened to go bad around the same time I installed it, so I initially thought it was Intrepid. Hopefully you can still find a solution to this problem.

Well, I have installed Intrepid, this afternoon, and I had the same problem - Intrepid randomly freezes -> my RAM is OK. The system is 32bit. Nothing relevant in system log has been shown - so I decided to install Hardy and watch what happens, if its, problem of my machine, or something wrong with I.

I was running the beta without a problem for several weeks before I started playing around with the display effects and ruined my xorg.conf. Now I upgraded to the official release and this freeze is occurring for me also. I am running 64 bit kubuntu and haven't been able to track down why this is happening yet

it appears that my problem is specific to xrandr, or at least it is due to attaching an external monitor to my dell precision m2300. Kubuntu runs freeze-free until I connect a dell external monitor to it. The display is cloned by default and I can see a constant flickering, spaced maybe 20 seconds apart. The problem may occur when I try to make the monitors seperate from each other ( primary LVDS to the left of and VGA1 ( external) to the right.
