Ubuntu update errors 12.04

Asked by Rich.b on 2013-06-05

A friend for which I installed Ubuntu 12.04 6 months ago has NOT kept up-to-date and now is getting errors.

There are over 534 update which do not seem to load.

Below is a part of the output from update manager:-

Please could you advise me how to resolve this, thank you, Richard

Try: sudo apt-get update

It may be that the package indexes are so out of date that they are pointing to files that don't exist.

Thank you Hamish, I thought of doing that but could not remember the correct order.... put it down to old age...

I will try this when the friend is back from work..
