Always show update details

Asked by Yuri Khan

Since Ubuntu Raring, update-manager no longer shows any useful information by default. I click the Update Manager icon in the indicator area, select “Show updates”, it shows a list of package descriptions. To see exact package names and changelogs, I have to expand the “Technical description” area and click through each package.

Is there a hidden setting that restores Precise’s behavior of showing package names instead of or along with the descriptions? Alternatively, is there a hidden setting so that clicking “Show updates” runs “synaptic -i=Upgradable” rather than update-manager?

That's a nice idea. I use precise so I didn't know about this, but I think I'd find that irritating. You could make a wishlist bug in update-manager for this...

I guess this is solved then, if you're content...

I am not content but the question as such is solved — I looked at the source and no, there are no such hidden settings.
