updater really messed up my system (raring 13.04)

Asked by Mark Orr

I used the software updater on my new 13.04 version and it messed up many things. I should mention that it showed at least a couple dozen updates - which I said to install. Then, problems galore. I could start programs but the would not close - although they did reach a state of unuseability/

Pleas, how can I best go back to 12.10 .... or reinstall 13.04 completely?

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug. There is also a vibrant support community available at http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.

Okay, it isn't possible to downgrade. This might help:

Boot into recovery mode by holding shift after pressing the power button until you get a menu. From this menu, select the "Fix Broken Packages" option. After a while, it should return to the menu and you can select "Resume Normal Boot".

Hope this helps
